Dr. William Kuhs

Dr. Will Kuhs (kooz) started employment on a per diem basis in the summer of 2020 and joined our practice full time in the fall of that year. We were not allowing clients in the building during this period and we all were masked for months following, so he may not seem familiar to many clients.

Dr. Kuhs graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in May 2016. He was awarded the Hershey Comeaux Memorial Award of Excellence in Small Animal Intensive Care and made frequent visits to the Dean’s List. He remains active with LSU SVM’s admissions. Following graduation he did brief post-graduate work in anesthesia, small and large animal emergency/critical care before starting his small animal rotating internship, which he completed in July 2018 at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT. Since his internship, he has worked in small animal general practice, mixed practice, done relief work and per diem emergency/critical care. He is known for being thorough and going the extra mile for his patients and clients. He often makes follow- up calls on his off days and does not hesitate to confer with specialists.

Prior to vet school, Dr. Kuhs was a Registered Veterinary Technician working two jobs. The first was at a referral hospital as a small animal emergency/critical care ICU technician and the second was a feline only practice in New Orleans. Dr. Kuhs spent many years in the zoo field before becoming an RVT. From costume-raising Mississippi Sandhill cranes to enriching exotic feline species, to being a bird and mammal zookeeper and then a zoo hospital veterinary assistant, Dr. Kuhs has worked with scores of different species of various classes. He was at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans during and after hurricane Katrina in 2005 as part of the skeleton crew keeping the zoo afloat. He later worked on the bird recovery and rehabilitation effort during the Deepwater Horizon/BP oil disaster in 2008. He currently assists the New York Marine Rescue Center (NYMarineRescue.org) associated with the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead evaluating sea turtles and marine mammals. He thoroughly enjoys long walks on beaches in cold weather looking for cold-stunned sea turtles. Dr. Kuhs got his start in the animal field volunteering at a therapeutic horseback riding facility before getting a summer job at a dog kennel and then veterinary practices.

Dr. Kuhs grew up in suburban Chicago. He lived in Ithaca, NY for years before moving to New Orleans, ultimately attending vet school in Baton Rouge. He likes to cook, especially enjoys spicy food traditions and believes the experience of hot pepper, coconut, lime and basil to be somewhat mystical. He also enjoys music of many sorts, gardening, reading, traveling and SCUBA diving. His first field of study was fine arts and still enjoys viewing and making art.
